Cellphone theft pedestrian in shock

When she got to the D96, the man was still behind her, and she realised something was very wrong.

Walking home from work on Thursday, January 26, Bridget Coulson never imagined she would be robbed of her cellphone.

“I was walking home like I usually do, and felt someone watching me as I was walking on the bridge near Taxi City and the D96 road.”

Nervously, she noticed a man she had passed earlier, following her.

“I felt uncomfortable and started walking faster, but so did he. When I walked slower, he also slowed down.”

When she got to the D96, the man was still behind her, and she realised something was very wrong.

“There is usually a man who sells stuff along the road, and I wanted to turn back to go to him, when the man who was following me stopped me.”

The man apparently pushed her and uttered words that sent chills down her spine.

“He said he did not want to fight me, so I should give him my phone or he would kill me. I took my cellphone out of my pocket and asked if I could just transfer photos from the phone, when he snatched it out of my hand.”

The culprit allegedly attempted to snatch her necklace, but ran when the its chain broke and fell down her shirt.

“I don’t think he had time to try and get, as he ran away.”

Her urgent appeals for help to another pedestrian fell on deaf ears.

“He just let him run past.”

Once home, she contacted her mom and told her what had happened.

“We went to the place I was robbed to see if we could see the man, but could not.”

Ms Coulson warned pedestrians to be vigilant when walking alone.

“I never thought I would be robbed,” she concluded.
