Outreach programme helps the underprivileged at rural school

Over 550 patients were seen at the school

A rural school in Uitval, 50km further inland from Ladysmith, was the venue of a recent Islamic Medical Association (IMA) outreach programme held in conjunction with Operation Sukuma Sakhe, the Al-Imdaad Foundation and the Department of Health.

A bright sunny day greeted the delegation and over 550 patients were seen at the school, where cattle are the natural lawnmowers.

The numbers proved overwhelming and the dentists were left lock-jawed at the record number of extractions performed. The optometrists had double vision at the end of the day to the extent that they will return in a month to finish their screening.

Those queuing for medical attention all waited patiently under challenging conditions, not forgetting that the team also worked under trying conditions.

The day ended with a massive thunderstorm that drenched all and sundry.
