Stray dogs accused of killing pets
A pack of stray dogs are allegedly prowling Amajuba Park, and are believed to be responsible for the death of a resident's pets.
It is suspected stray dogs possibly killed three dogs in Amajuba Park.
Andrew van den Berg lost two of his dogs last week.
“Last Thursday, January 26, my wife and I went out and when we got back home, one of our dogs was lying in the backyard and battling to breathe.”
Fearing the worst, the couple rushed their pet to the vet.
“She had gashes in her stomach and on the way to the vet, she died.”
Still dealing with the ordeal of losing a beloved pet, one of his other dogs went missing.
“My dog never went out of the yard, but suddenly she is gone and nowhere to be found.”
Mr van den Berg has also accused the pack of stray dogs of killing a third dog, found on a neighbouring property.
“I was in the backyard on Sunday, January 29, when I smelled something rotten.”
“I went to see what it was, because it smelled as if something had died. I reported the matter to the municipality, but the municipality has not removed it.”
Mr van den Berg said the stench of the dog’s corpse was overwhelming in the heat.
He believed something needed to be done to stop the stray dogs.
The municipality was contacted for comment regarding the municipal pound’s duties in terms of stray dogs and the removal of the dead dog’s body, but failed to comment at the time of going to print.
