An armed house robbery during the early hours of Saturday morning (February 4) in Tanjore Road has left residents in shock.
It is alleged that 3 male suspects pried open a window to gain access to the house. The mother, father, a 6-year-old son and another family relative were asleep when the suspects entered the home.
The 6-year-old boy woke up to find the 3 men in the house. They warned him not to shout or they would shoot his parents who were asleep in the other bedroom.
They took him to his parents’ room and he was forced to watch as one of the robbers stood over his sleeping parents with a gun pointing at them in case they woke up.
The other 2 continued to search the house for valuables.

The suspects took the house keys and opened the kitchen door to remove items from the house. They took cash, a TV, cell-phones, jewellery, a DVD player, a PlayStation and even food from the fridge.
The suspects then tried to go into the next door house, but somebody was awake and they screamed, which scared them off and they left the premises.
The rest of the family woke up to find that their home had been broken into and their belongings stolen. A chair was found next to the boundary wall of the property, where the suspects stood and carried everything over the wall.

Councillor Abbas Warasally visited the house that was broken into and spoke to the family. He says he is disappointed with the SAPS and that they must stop relying on CPFs (Community Policing Forums) and start having more visible policing to stop break-ins like this from happening.
Police and the Ladysmith Dog Unit responded to the scene.
A massive manhunt was launched.
