Vehicle thief sentenced to 8 years’ imprisonment

Trace evidence was found inside the vehicle, which eventually linked the accused to the case

A 29-year-old accused in a theft of motor vehicle case was recently sentenced to a lengthy prison sentence.

On Thursday (February 2), the Ladysmith Regional Court sentenced Sibusiso Ndlovu to eight years’ imprisonment.

His conviction stems from an incident which occurred on November 9, 2009.

On the day in question, a 27-year-old resident of Mason Road parked her vehicle, locked it and later went to sleep. The following day at about 7.30am, she woke to find that her vehicle had been stolen. The vehicle was later found in Farquhar Road, where it had been abandoned by the culprits.

Forensic experts from Ladysmith Criminal Record and Crime Scene Management (CR&CSM) were called in and carefully went over the vehicle.

Trace evidence was found inside the vehicle, which eventually linked the accused to this case, which was investigated by the Ladysmith Vehicle Identification Section (VIS).
