Hijacker sentenced to 8 years’ imprisonment

Mazibuko threatened the driver with a knife and then made off with the vehicle

The Ladysmith Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) recently saw the conviction and sentencing of 25-year-old Nkululeko Derrick Mazibuko by the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court.

Mazibuko was sentenced on January 30 to eight years’ imprisonment for robbery.

On May 1, 2015, Mazibuko hijacked a local resident in Area J, Steadville, after the driver stopped to talk to someone along the road.

Mazibuko threatened the 29-year-old driver with a knife and then made off with the vehicle, which was recovered the same day by Ladysmith police officers.

Mazibuko was arrested and the case reached its conclusion at the end of January.
