He matriculated at Siyamukela High School in 2015, and took a gap-year in 2016. He obtained a distinction for Physical Science and a B in Mathematics.

His love for working with numbers and his passion for helping others was what led to his decision to study Actuarial Sciences. Nhlakanipho was not optimistic about his chancesto be awarded a bursary as the competition was tough.

“I grew up in a Christian family which taught me to trust God in whatever I do”.

He also found inspiration in the Bible, which changed his life. Although his family could not afford the cost of his education, they offered him love and support which motivated him to excel academically.

Nhlakanipho will qualify in three years and plans to do his Honours in Actuarial Sciences. He enjoys playing soccer and spending quality time with his family and friends.

Nhlakanipho received a full bursary which covers tuition fees, accommodation and study material.

He expressed his gratitude to the Newcastle Municipality for helping him realise his dream.

“This bursary is very important to me, because I didn’t know who was going to pay for my fees, and when the municipality intervened, I was elated that I finally had the chance to make a success of myself.”

His advice to matriculants all over the country is never to give up, and always work hard because nothing worthy will come without consented effort.
