Update: Woman talks about her robbery ordeal in Kandahar Avenue

The men then escaped through a patio door with the domestic worker

48-year-old Mrs Wyherdah Saheb is still in shock after the robbery that took place yesterday morning (February 8) at her home in Kandahar Avenue.

She told the Ladysmith Gazette about her traumatic ordeal.

Her maid, who has been working for her for three weeks, came to work early yesterday morning. She instructed the domestic worker to clean the house and have breakfast while she went upstairs to check on her four-year-old nephew.

While she was upstairs in her room, her worker went upstairs and asked her if the bread was all right to eat. Mrs Saheb replied that it was fine since her husband had bought the bread the night before, so it was still fresh.

The domestic worker left and within 15 minutes, three black men barged into her bedroom. One of them ran to her, grabbed her by the throat and demanded cash. They had a knife and rope with them.

While one of them had his hand around her throat, the phone rang, which was right next to her on the wall. She immediately elbowed her attacker, picked up the phone and screamed “HELP”.

The men rushed out of the room and went into another room, trying to escape. In their panic, they dropped a bag of theirs which contained tape and fishing lines.

The men escaped through a patio door which was downstairs.

By then, people had already heard what was happening and rushed to help the terrified Mrs Saheb.

“I am so thankful to God that my nephew was still sleeping when the ordeal happened. Imagine if he had gotten hurt in some way. That would’ve been terrible,” explains Mrs Saheb.

Police are investigating a case of house robbery.

House robberies seem to be taking place in the vicinity of Tanjore Road and Kandahar Avenue. As well as the area around Poort Road , Convent Road and Egerton Road. Anyone who notices any suspicious persons or activity in their area is requested to contact police immediately so they may investigate further.
