AN abandoned vehicle was discovered in Nongoma by Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch‘s former Patrol Commander, Adriaan Botha, early on Tuesday morning.
Botha discovered the vehicle shortly after 6am, with the engine still idling. He scanned the license and made another startling discovery. The license was registered to a red Golf.
It was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen in Centurion on Monday afternoon and that the Netstar Tracker unit had been disconnected by the thieves, as was evident by a damaged airbag on the passenger side of the vehicle.
“The fingerprint guys came out and the vehicle was taken to the Ngome Police Station,” stated Botha, who may have stepped down as Patrol Commander, but is clearly still looking out for the community and remains active in the fight against crime.
Evidence at the scene alluded to the fact that the perpetrators who had stolen the vehicle had attempted to set it alight.
