BREAKING NEWS: 911 tracks down stolen vehicle

Members quickly cornered off the street and apprehended the alleged suspect.

NEWCASTLE – Newcastillians, Martin Els and Renier Campher, can sleep sound tonight after their vehicle was recovered this afternoon [January 13] by members of 911 Community Policing Forum and Newcastle SAPS.

The bakkie was recovered in Bird Street.

According to the head of Newcastle 911, Morne Potgieter, the vehicle was reported stolen just after 9am this morning in Hutten Heights.

911 response members patrolled the streets of Newcastle, searching for the vehicle, until they received a tip-off that it had been spotted in Bird Street.

Members quickly cornered off the street and apprehended the alleged suspect.

Police were summoned to the scene, and the suspect was arrested.

Police arrested the alleged car thief.

Mr Campher thanked the members of Newcastle 911, and said he never doubted their abilities to find his vehicle, as he was aware the group had a positive track record of recovering stolen vehicles.

“We would just like to thank Newcastle 911 for their dedication to finding our vehicle. We are truly grateful to them,” he said.
