Police swoop down on Bergville and Ematsheni

Two unlicensed liquor outlets were closed down

A joint operation was held on February 3 and 4 involving Bergville South African Police Service (SAPS), Ematsheni SAPS, Uthukela Cluster personnel and Ladysmith K9 unit.

The operation was conducted in the Bergville and Ematsheni areas focussing on the root causes of crime. During the operation two people were arrested for driving while under influence of liquor.

Two unlicensed liquor outlets were closed down. Two cases of selling liquor without a licence were opened. Two people were subsequently arrested and a large quantity of liquor was seized.

Another 19 people were arrested for crimes related to being intoxicated in a public place as well as illegal gambling.
Two others were arrested for a robbery case, which occurred in Ematsheni during January 2017. Police also recovered a stolen truck battery at Ematsheni.
