Arrested near Ladysmith for possession of unlicensed firearms

The two accused appeared on Thursday in the Colenso and Estcourt Magistrate's Courts

Two suspects appeared in court on Thursday (February 9) after being arrested the previous day for being in possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and dagga.

On Wednesday (February 8) at about 10.30am, Ladysmith K9 officers were working on crime intelligence related information which led them to a farm in the Colenso area. Along the road, they spotted a 26-year-old man they later arrested after having found an unlicensed 9mm pistol and 22 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

He faces charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

During the early hours of Thursday morning, a second arrest was made by Pietermaritzburg POP Unit officers who were also following up on information about an unlicensed firearm. On arrival at a homestead in the Ngonyameni area of Amangwe, they arrested a 36-year-old man for being in possession of an unlicensed Z88 pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition.

He was also found in possession of two plastic bags containing dagga seeds.

The suspect faces charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of dagga seeds.

The two accused appeared on Thursday in the Colenso and Estcourt Magistrate’s Courts respectively.
