Estcourt Regional Court sentences vehicle thief

A 28-year-old was convicted and sentenced on February 16 to eight years imprisonment for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle

Recently the Estcourt Regional Court sentenced 28-year-old Sandile Xaba to a term of imprisonment for the possession of a stolen vehicle.

This follows an incident that took place on May 24, 2016 at 9am. A resident parked his Toyota Tazz next to the taxi rank in Alexandra Street.

On his return at about 5.30pm, he discovered his vehicle was stolen. On May 28, 2016 at about 8.30pm, police found the stolen vehicle in Winterton.

Examination of the vehicle by the Ladysmith Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) found that the licence plates had been changed as well as the VIN number had been tampered with.

The 28-year-old was then arrested for being in possession of the stolen vehicle. He was convicted and sentenced on February 16 to eight years imprisonment for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
