Those drawing money from local banks are urged to take extra security measures after a businesswoman discovered that R25 000 had been stolen from her vehicle.
The businesswoman, who preferred not to be named, had drawn money from Standard Bank on Friday and then driven to Charlie’s Super Spar with her two young sons. “It was only when I returned to the car and saw that the cash that had been in a bag on the console that two men approached my car as I parked,” she said.

After watching camera footage, she saw that when she and her children had alighted from the vehicle, one of the men had distracted enough to allow his accomplice to put his hand in the back door to prevent it from fully closing.
“The first man followed me into Spar and is seen giving the thumbs-up to the second man to tell him he can quickly open the car and take the cash.”
There have been other incidents where bank customers drawing especially large sums of money are followed and then robbed.
The businesswoman told the Courier she was just grateful that neither her children nor herself were injured during the theft.
