Man jailed for raping sister

She thought her brother would have protected her from criminals...

A Vryheid man was convicted and sentenced by the Vryheid Regional Court to ten years for raping his 22-year-old sister after he pleaded guilty in court.

The Court heard that how at about 11pm on New Year’s Day, the victim asked her brother (27) to accompany her to a nearby tavern at Bhekuzulu location. She asked him because she trusted him and believed that he would protect her if being attacked by criminals, not knowing that he will turn against her.

While walking with him, the accused threatened her with a knife and forced her to nearby bushes where he raped her. A case of rape was opened at Vryheid police station for further investigation.The  Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit took over the investigation that led to the arrest of the accused.
