Taking compassion to Knysna

After the recent fires which raged through Knysna, South Africans have rallied together to help those who lost all their earthly belongings in the inferno.
Newcastle was no different, with DHL acting as a drop-off point where people could donate towards the Knysna Relief Campaign.
Rob and Laura Lamberti from DHL were left in awe at the overwhelming support they received.
“We have the most amazing community,” said Laura.
Within hours of notifying Newcastillians that DHL was taking an active approach to supporting the victims of the fire, the community flocked to drop off their donations.
Items ranging from clothing, shoes, toiletries, groceries, Tupperware and blankets soon took over the courier company’s premises.
“We are struggling to keep up with the support,” Laura laughed.
DHL transported the bulk of the donations to its Johannesburg branch on Sunday and the remainder on Monday, where it was then flown free of charge to George and handed out to those in need.
“DHL is doing this all free of charge. The company took a stance in caring for its relevant communities,” Rob explained.
The Lamberti’s thanked Newcastle for its overwhelming support.
