Endumeni Council again fails to hold a meeting

Mayor Richard Mbatha said a stand-in Speaker would have to be elected or the meeting would be closed.

The Endumeni Council again failed to hold a meeting today. The meeting should have discussed the IDP projects and concerns over the recently passed budget.
The ANC Councillors did arrive after the 10am start but said they would not sign the register until their motions are tabled in front of an ordinary Council meeting. It was then reported by the manager, Thabani Biyela, that Speaker, Council Bongiwe Mbatha Makhathini, had been admitted to hospital.
Mayor Richard Mbatha said a stand-in Speaker would have to be elected or the meeting would be closed.
Former Speaker S’duduzi Mdluli, was elected but declined as did Councillor Calie Carelse.
There was also queries as to why Mr Mosia was allowed to attend meetings. His designation is the Manager in the Mayor’s office.
However, Mr Mosia later told the Courier he is advising the Mayor and Speaker and is allowed to sit in but not participate.
