A 66-year-old woman, who is confined to a wheelchair, was attacked in her flat at the Eventide complex last night.
Relatives who contacted the Courier confirmed that Gillian Holm was in her flat at about 7pm last night when a young man managed to break in through a small window. An accomplice stood outside waiting for him to return, confirmed Karen Glasgow of the SAVF that runs Eventide.
Gillian screamed and the man, said to be around 19, put this hand and/of a scarf over her mouth in attempt to quieten her.
In so doing, she suffered a slight cut on her nose.
At this stage it appears as if only Gillian’s phone was stolen. After her attackers fled, Gillian pressed the panic button in her flat. Unfortunately it was not answered but her screams had alerted a neighbour, Rose Godfrey, who in turn phoned a staff member, Trudie Smith. Trudie phoned Karen who immediately rushed from Glencoe to Eventide.
On the way, she called Mbube Security and arranged to met their guards at the gate. The police arrived shortly afterwards after attending to a robbery at the Pick n Pay Centre. A guard was posted at the Home for the night while Gillian spent the night with friends in Dundee.
“We have a security guard at Eventide on Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays. We will have to look at ways to beef up security. Obviously this is a traumatic incident,” Karen said.
Relatives said last year Gillian’s flat was broken into and a phone stolen while was attending a wedding. Police are investigating.
