Residents warned of Prince Charming conman who asks for ‘cooking money’

Minutes later, he had seen the man of the house, riding out on his mountain bike and went to the house to tell his wife how passionate he was about riding.

A charming conman is doing the rounds in Dundee going from door to door with a story that his well-to-do parents have left him alone in the house to cook and he needs money to buy either gas or groceries.
The man, who was photographed while walking on Union Street on Saturday, had earlier visited a house on Friis Street where he told the homeowners that he was interested in mountain biking.
Minutes later, he had seen the man of the house, riding out on his mountain bike and went to the house to tell his wife how passionate he was about riding.
He said he lived ‘nearby’ and his mother is a doctor in Richards Bay and his father an educator.
When told to come back with the man of the house was back, the young man left but returned minutes later with a story that he needs to cook and had to go to Shoprite to buy potatoes.
When asked if he had a car he said ‘yes’ but did not want to use his petrol. He then left but returned again to enquire about mountain bike racing.
There have also been reports of him visiting other homes in Dundee with similar stories. In one incident a kindly resident on Cuthbert Street gave him R100 after being spun a story that he needed to buy gas to cook for his family who ‘lives nearby’.
He is very charming and articulate. Do not be fooled, said residents who had been visited by Mr Charming.
