READ NOW: Shooting union celebrates with gala dinner

Honoured guests included shooters and management representing the many provincial branches of SANSSU, local schools and District Mayor, Dr Musa Ngubane.

Local shooters earned a celebration after success in Newcastle.

After its National Championships, the South African National Schools Shooters Union (SANSSU) hosted a gala dinner and prizegiving on Thursday night.

The Farmers Hall was chosen for this momentous occasion.

Honoured guests included shooters and management representing the many provincial branches of SANSSU, local schools and District Mayor, Dr Musa Ngubane.

Formalities got underway with scripture and prayer by Pastor Gerrie Steenkamp.

SANSSU’s KwaZulu-Natal Chairman, Heinrich Harris welcomed guests and also introduced the key note speaker, SANSSU President, Andre Pienaar.

Pienaar gave a stirring speech on using opportunities.

He relayed his message with a comparative story of Proteas cricket captain, AB de Villiers and lesser-known shooter, Neil Brandt, who achieved success in their own rights.

AB achieved fame on an international scale.

Although Neil did not reach the same level, he learned to shoot despite phsyical disabilities and achieved his own personal goals.

Likewise, Pienaar encouraged learners to achieve at their level.

“Remember the gifts your coaches have given you. Never forget to thank friends, family, sponsors, schools, parents and most importantly, God.”

With the formalities done, SANSSU honoured shooters, management, range officials and sponsors by presenting various prizes and awards.

This wrapped up an altogether successful week in the sights.
