Blocked drains bring high waters in Albert Street

A business manager from the street says that it seems as if clogged gutters and drains exacerbate the flooding

Motorists and business owners in and around Albert Street had to take alternative routes last week when the heavy rain flooded this busy part of the central business district.

Those left with no other option, had to make a good judgement about a path to choose. Pedestrians were also in limbo as water gushed all around.

Albert Street was one of the roads affected by last week’s heavy rain. A business manager from the street says that it seems as if clogged gutters and drains exacerbate the flooding.

This matter has previously been reported to the municipality who took on a temporary solution. The business manager, who raised this issue, explained that this temporary solution involved municipal workers piling the dirt from the gutters onto the sidewalk.

Inevitably this rubbish falls back into the gutter and causes further blockages. He went on to ask that further measures be taken to prevent this from recurring.
