Another rain, road floods in Papkuilsfontein

A large volume of water pools across the length of the road and only subsides hours later

Last week’s heavy rainfall caused the main road in Papkuilsfontein to be flooded…again.

There seems to be no end to the problematic flooding of this road, which has been plaguing residents for more than five years. In 2015, the former Umtshezi Municipality said that it would ‘rethink the drainage’ system on the road.

Former Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko said that the flooded road posed a “serious issue, which is distressing the community living in and around Papkuilsfontein”. The road becomes impassable for pedestrians and some vehicles during heavy rainfall.

A large volume of water pools across the length of the road and only subsides hours later.

At the time the municipality stated that it would set aside a budget to correct the “terrain and slope of the area because it needs a well-engineered and well-structured water management system”.

Since then there has been no improvement in the road’s condition.

The municipality was again contacted for feedback on this matter, a response is awaited.
