Why is Earth Day important?

You can use the rest of the day to educate yourself on how you contribute to the many issues facing the environment

Are you aware of the fact that today (April 22) is Earth Day?

Earth Day has been celebrated every April 22nd since 1970.

The main aim of Earth Day is to raise awareness on the negative impact our actions as mankind have on our environment and earth as a whole, and is a day for political action and civic participation.

This year’s theme is ‘End Plastic Pollution’.

If you haven’t celebrated Earth Day, you can simply collect items such as paper, cans and plastic to be recycled or re-used.

There is a Why Waste in Ladysmith, situated at 12 Circle Road, where you can drop off items to be recycled.

You can also switch off all electrical appliances and lights for an hour.

Use the rest of the day to educate yourself on how you contribute to the many issues facing the environment in this day and age, and how you can make more conscious and environmentally friendly choices.

Help the earth and make a difference for the better every day; not only on Earth Day.
