Notice: SAFTU national strike likely to affect Ladysmith tomorrow

The strike is in opposition to the new National Minimum Wage Bill and other changes to labour laws

It is likely that the South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU) national strike will affect Ladysmith tomorrow (April 25).

Speaking to SAFTU spokesperson Patrick Craven, he says that workers in the area (part of the union or not part of the union) will probably be taking part in the national strike.

The strike is in opposition to the new National Minimum Wage Bill and other changes to labour laws.

The union feels that the minimum amount of R20 an hour is not enough for an average family to survive on.

The minimum for farm workers will be R18, R15 for domestic workers and R11 for workers employed by the Extended Public Works programme.

It is uncertain how the strike will affect Ladysmith and to what degree the day will be disrupted, yet it is very likely that disruptions will occur.
