MUST READ: Newcastle 911 conclude April crime statistics

April 23:

– Members of the CPF responded to a report of a house fire on Boundary Road.

– It was reported that a learner was robbed near his school. A description of the suspects clothes was circulated and a search was conducted to locate his whereabouts.

– Members responded to the CBD where it was reported that a suspect was in possession of a large amount of medication, and could not give an acceptable explaination as to how he obtained them.

SAPS was contacted for assistance.

– A collision was reported to have occurred on Albert Wessels Drive. All emergency personnel responded to the scene.

– Members were put on high alert to be on the look out for a vehicle which was believed to be involved in an armed robbery which had occurred in Ermelo, Mpumalanga.

April 24:

– There were reports of suspects shining torch lights into the houses of Arbor Park residents. A local security company was informed and responded to the complaints.

– Members were requested to perform extra patrols through Paterson Street as it was said the ‘ladies of the night’ were hassling residents in the area.

– A house break in occurred on Moller Street, and members were requested to perform extra patrols in the area.

April 25:

– A report was received of a collision between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian which occurred on the corner of Amathys and Mangaan Streets. Emergency services were contacted for assistance.

– It was reported two suspects attempted to rob a woman at an ATM at a local shopping mall. The suspects were interrupted and fled the scene. A description of the vehicle was circulated and attempts were made to locate the suspects.

– A second collision was reported to have occurred on Murchison Street. Various emergency services responded to the scene, and no injuries were reported.

– The CPF responded to Taxi City, after being informed of gunshots being fired and bricks being thrown at buses.

– A report was received of unattended cattle wandering around Nagtegaal Road.

April 26:

– Reports were received from a resident in Arbor Park claiming to hear noises on his roof and knocking sounds on his windows. A local security company was contacted for assistance.

– A collision occurred on the R34 Memel Road, about 28 kilometers outside Newcastle.

April 27:

A report was received of an alleged intoxicated driver who had stalled his vehicle in the middle of DF Malan Road in Barry Hertzog Park. SAPS was contacted and responded to the scene.

April 28:

– It was reported that four suspects stole a woman’s ATM card at a local shopping outlet. A description of the vehicle was circulated and a search was conducted to locate the suspects.

– A collision was reported on the N11 towards Volksrust, whereby a bakkie had overturned. SAPS, RTI and ambulance services were contacted to assist at the scene.

April 29:

– A report was received of a stabbing which had occurred across from the Amajuba Lodge in Victoria Road. Ambulance services were contacted for medical assistance.

– Members of the CPF responded to two more stabbings which had occurred on Allen Street.

– Shortly after the first three stabbings, members responded to yet another stabbing on Allen Street. Paramedics responded to the scene and treated the patient for serious injuries. The suspects will be appearing in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court soon, and all cases remain subject to police investigations.

A note from Newcastle 911 Management:

“Members of the public are requested to please make sure of a situation before calling it in to the 911 Control Room. We do receive calls requesting our help at specific addresses, but when members get there, all is quiet.”

The CPF also urged members of the public to be cautious of suspicious people and vehicles in their area.

“When calling it in to the Control Room, please try and give a detailed description of the make and model of a vehicle and registration number if possible. Also, with people, please try and give a detailed description of the clothing being worn.”
