Newcastle SAPS has sent out a warning to Newcastle residents to be aware of fraud scams committed in town and surrounding areas.
The warning comes after a number of fraud cases were reported.
According to reports, the alleged fraudsters approached victims at ATM’s, interrupting them while withdrawing money, and swapping bank cards in the process.

Similar claims have surfaced in other areas, where victims were targeted while purchasing items from the internet or through the advertisements in newspapers.
Upon further enquiry regarding the advertisement, victims would be provided with banking details to deposit money for the items they purchased online, as well as transportation cost of the items.
As soon as the money is deposited, the fraudster’s cellphone will be switched off or disconnected, leaving victims in the dark about the items they have purchased.
