Bargaining council condemns the violent protest action on N3 near the Mooi River Toll Plaza

The NBCRFLI appeals to all those responsible for the protests to cease from using violence and to use the correct channels to address any issues or concerns that they have

The National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistic Industry (NBCRFLI) and the Parties to Council (employer associations – RFA, NEASA and the trade unions – SATAWU, MTWU, PTAWU and TAWU of SA) are perturbed by the violent protests that occurred in the Mooi River Toll Plaza.

The NBCRFLI is currently conducting a full investigation on possible non-compliance of companies within its jurisdiction in order to respond to all issues relating to its mandate.

The NBCRFLI condemns in the strongest possible terms the acts of violence that occurred as this illegal conduct endangers the lives and property of innocent people.

We wish to draw your attention that in terms of our promulgated Main Collective Agreement, the NBCRFLI has jurisdiction of the transportation of goods for reward only. Therefore, any company which does its own transportation with its own trucks is not regulated by the NBCRFLI, these are the majority of trucks on our roads compared to those regulated by the NBCRFLI.

As per the Clause 58 of our promulgated Main Collective Agreement, the NBCRFLI does not condone the employment of illegal immigrants by employers in our jurisdiction.

It is the mandate of the NBCFRLI to conduct regular inspections of registered immigrants employed by such employers and we invite anyone who might have information about the employment of illegal immigrants to report such cases to our offices. They can also do this anonymously, through our “Be-Heard” toll-free tip-off line – 0800 1000 904 alternatively via SMS on 44666 or via email: nbcrfli@beheard.co.za.

The NBCRFLI also endeavours to meet with all the affected stakeholders to understand their concerns and find a resolution in line with its mandate.
