Update: Learners caught eating ‘space cakes’ at a primary school in Ladysmith

The allegations could not be proved

Police have confirmed that a learner was found with a small amount of dagga in his possession at a primary school this morning (May 28).

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Nyathi, “Police were informed of allegations that pupils had consumed ‘space cakes’. These allegations could not be proved at that stage.”

“As a precautionary measure, the learners were closely observed and they showed no signs of being ‘high’,” said a source close to the incident.

The pupil who brought the cakes to school for lunch was indeed found in possession of dagga and this is why it was suspected that the cakes were ‘spiked’ with marijuana (dagga).

“The school is handling the issues internally,” added Captain Nyathi.
