A woman was badly assaulted and robbed this morning (May 29) at around 5.30am in the Smartiesville area while she was on her way to work.
It is believed that the lady was walking across an open field not far from the mosque when two men attacked her and robbed her of her belongings.
The woman attempted to fight off the robbers, but they easily overpowered her and proceeded to beat her up. They stole her handbag before fleeing the scene.

Nearby residents were awoken by the woman’s cries for help as she lay injured on the ground.
Ambulance services responded to the scene, and paramedics stabilised the woman before taking her to hospital.
It is suspected that the woman’s leg was broken during the attack.
