BREAKING NEWS: IFP Councillor, Endumeni Mayor and co-accused granted bail (video included)

Magistrate Sam Mpungose announced his decision a few minutes ago, amid stifled cheers in the court room

Inkatha Freedom party Councillor Mthembeni Majola, Endumeni (Dundee) Local Municipality Mayor Siboniso Richard Mbatha and their co-accused Xolani Makhathini have been granted bail of R2 000 each.

Magistrate Sam Mpungose announced his decision a few minutes ago, amid stifled cheers in the court room.

Shortly after lunch, State Prosecutor Ms E Zungu stated that she would be withdrawing her bail objection.

Magistrate Mpungose set bail at R 2 000 for each person and the bail conditions are that each of the men appears personally at the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court for court dates, they are not allowed to communicate directly with the witnesses or prosecution and Mr Mbatha (Endumeni Mayor) may only communicate with Speaker Bongiwe Mbatha, who the alleged assassination was plotted against) via their Personal Assistants.

The matter has been remanded to July 4 for further investigation.

IFP supporters welcomed the IFP councillor and Mayor with song, dance and applause outside court.
