Colita man’s body found dumped in the Klip River

Bevin Jacobs' body was found in a sack with concrete blocks inside the sack to weigh down the corpse in the river

About a month ago Ezakheni police found a body dumped in a sack in the Klip River in the Pieter’s area near Ladysmith.

Warrant Officer Jacques Meyer from the Ladysmith Search and Rescue Unit recovered the body from the river.

The body was found in a sack with concrete blocks inside the sack to weigh down the corpse in the river. Police say the man had sustained severe head injuries.

The deceased was not identified at the time. Recently the body was identified by an Estcourt family and was that of 25-year-old Bevin Jacobs from Colita.

The family is distraught. Chilling details of the mutilated corpse left family members gripped with shock.

Speaking to the Estcourt News a close relative said: “The state of his body was very, very bad.”

Another family member was heard saying they thought they were strong enough to identify the body, but they are struggling to fall asleep at night. Describing the state of the man’s body, it was said that his eyeballs had sunken into the skull, his head was swollen due to the water and the corpse was in a state of severe decomposition.

The family is relieved that they now have closure, but have to seek counselling. A funeral service was held on Friday at the Colita Community Hall.

Both Ezakheni and Estcourt police are currently investigating a case of murder.

“Estcourt police are working closely with members from Ezakheni Police Station to trace the suspects,” said police spokesperson Captain Bongani Ephraim Nyathi.
