A woman appeared in court today after she allegedly attempted to kidnap a child from Vryheid Hospital. It is believed that her target was a newborn baby, although this has not yet been confirmed. The woman was arrested on June 19.
A video of the arrest, which took place on Monday night at Vryheid Hospital, is circulating and shows the woman collecting her belongings from the hospital staff as Warrant Officer Singh escorts her from the building in handcuffs, following the alleged kidnapping incident.
The details surrounding the incident are not clear at this point but, according to a source at Vryheid SAPS, the woman is still in custody.
Vryheid SAPS communications officer, Captain Cheryl Venter, will provide the Vryheid Herald with a full report as soon as it is available.
Kidnapping is a worldwide scourge that strikes fear into the hearts of parents and caregivers around the globe and we especially cannot close our eyes to the atrocity of this crime when it happens right under our noses.
