CRIME: 24 stolen vehicles recovered around KZN

According to SAPS KZN Media Liaison Officer, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, the vehicles recovered included a Nissan Hardbody, a Toyota Venture, a Mazda bakkie and a Volkswagen Golf.

A joint KZN SAPS Operation earlier this month led to the arrests of three suspects, and the recovery of 24 stolen vehicles around KwaZulu-Natal.

A Toyota engine, a Toyota chassis and a motorbike was also recovered during the operation, which was carried out in Newcastle, Pietermaritzburg, Umsinga, Greytown, Muden and the surrounding areas.

According to SAPS KZN Media Liaison Officer, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, the vehicles recovered included a Nissan Hardbody, a Toyota Venture, a Mazda bakkie and a Volkswagen Golf.

“An unlicensed pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition, as well as a rifle, were also seized during the operation.”

The three suspects, aged between 26 and 28 years, were arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicles.

“These operations will continue throughout the province, as police put in measures to curb the theft and carjacking of vehicles. An appeal is once more made to our communities, panel beating businesses and scrap yards not to support these criminals by buying stolen vehicles and its parts. This is fueling vehicle related crime and contributing to the deaths of innocent citizens in the process,” concluded Colonel Mbhele.
