Burglar attempts to destroy evidence in SAPS locker

Evidence in an SAPS locker had been soaked in petrol, ready to be burned.

A burglary case has been opened by Vryheid SAPS after their 13 Exhibits office was found with some files having allegedly been removed from their original places, some are said to have even been found on the floor.

Staff members were met by a strong petrol smell, and after sniffing around, found that it was coming from the exhibits room. Upon inspection, it was found that petrol had been poured all over the room.

There were apparently no signs of forced entry and it is unclear whether the intruder was disturbed while in the process of setting the office alight.

Investigations are currently underway.
