Municipal property, including the main electricity transformer, was damaged by the protesters

Close to 30 people have been arrested for public violence after the protest action in Colenso on Monday (July 2).

In the early hours of Monday morning, a group of people from Colenso and the surrounding areas blocked the R103 with rocks, stones, tyres and tree branches.

Police officers were mobilized to the area and the crowd dispersed.

The protesters, who were demanding better service delivery, later came back and refused to disperse as they again blocked the road with more stones and tree branches.
