Liquor inspection in Wembezi reveals suspicious concoction

Tests will be conducted on the recovered contents, which have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory

During a compliance inspection in Wembezi on Thursday, a startling discovery was made. Partnering with members of the Liquor Board, Wembezi police commenced on a series of random compliance checks in the area.

During the operation, a 32-year-old man came onto their radar. Police found him in possession of allegedly illegally manufactured liquor.

“Several bottles and drums of the concoction were recovered from the suspect,” confirmed police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Tests will be conducted on the recovered contents, which have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory.

“The accused can be charged for counterfeiting if it is established that the contents indeed contains intoxicating liquor,” added W/O Khan.

The 32-year-old man made a brief appearance in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
