Exclusive interview with family after shocking armed robbery at their home

“The robbers said they would shoot me if I didn’t give them cash and accused me of lying”

The feeling of cold steel against his head has left a father and his family traumatised after a home invasion on Monday evening.
The family members residing at 38 Jantha Crescent were going about their daily routine when three armed men stormed into their home.
In an exclusive interview, the family recalls the horrifying ordeal…
They had just sat down to watch TV when the back door of their home opened. The door chime jingled and when the father looked up, he saw three intruders.
He immediately knew they were in deep trouble.
One of the suspects was wearing a balaclava and was armed with a firearm, while the other two suspects were armed with a knife and a taser. The men moved swiftly towards the father and demanded money.
According to him, he indicated that he did not have any money and handed over his wallet.
“The robbers said they would shoot me if I didn’t give them cash and accused me of lying.”
While the men continued to question the man, they kept on hitting him, kicking him and shocking him with the taser. His daughter had a phone and tried to call for help, but one of the men ordered her to put the phone off.
The ordeal continued, with the men pushing the father into his bedroom and asking where the safe was.
His young daughter was then threatened and told that they would kill her father if she didn’t tell them the location of the safe.
They had no option but to lead the men to the safe; jewellery was stolen. The men also stole other items from the house, including cell-phones, shoes, a PlayStation and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The armed robbers then tied up the family and domestic worker with cable ties, hands behind their backs, before fleeing the scene.
The 10-year-old son managed to free himself from the cable ties and then freed his father. The family immediately called for help.
The father says that “during the entire ordeal, they had a firearm pointed to my head and I feared for my life.”
His wife sustained a knife wound to her right shoulder, his daughter sustained bruises when she was dragged around, the young son sustained a knife wound to his back, and their domestic worker was beaten up by the robbers.
He added that the armed robbers were young and spoke fluent English. The homeowner says that he and his family are still shaken up by what happened and will be going for counselling.
Police are currently investigating the armed robbery.
