Sergeant Mfanafuthi Nyembe, Spokesperson for Dannhauser SAPS said, three armed men entered the Emmanuel tuck-shop at about 6.15am.

They pointed a firearm at the shopkeeper and demanded he give them his money.

The men then fled from the shop on foot, taking with them about R15 000 in cash.

“An off-duty police officer was alerted of the business robbery, and proceeded to give chase after the suspects, who then opened fire at the officer.”

However, he returned fire at the suspects, and injured one of them above the hip, while the other two suspects escaped arrest and hid in a nearby field.

“The suspect was taken to hospital, where he will be guarded by SAPS officials. In the meantime, police followed up on information which lead them to the arrest of a second suspect.”

Police also recovered a 9mm pistol and eight live rounds of ammunition.

The third suspect is still at large and the case will remain subject to further police investigation.
