Police seize firearms and ammunition in Weenen

During a search of a premises in the Msobotsheni area of Weenen, officers from the Newcastle Public Order Policing Unit recovered a 7.65 pistol, seven rounds of ammunition as well as a modified air rifle

A 27-year-old man was arrested and charged after police discovered a firearm, rifle and ammunition in his possession recently.

During a search of a premises in the Msobotsheni area of Weenen, officers from the Newcastle Public Order Policing Unit recovered a 7.65 pistol, seven rounds of ammunition as well as a modified air rifle.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan said that the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether it has been used to commit crimes in South Africa. The arrested man appeared in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court.
