Businesses have reported that fake Mandela notes have started circulating in town.
One business was hit yesterday (August 23).
“I found out that a fake R100 note was given to us last night. At first glance you cannot tell the difference, but if you look again, you can see that it’s not real,” the businessman stated.
The differences are small things like there being no watermark on the fake note, the hologram ‘100’ in the lower corner does not shift, and the cellophane markings are incorrect.
“The texture is also off,” the businessman elaborated.
Businesses around town should thus be wary of counterfeit money.
