The trailer was laden with five cattle, which police wanted answers for. The vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, was pulled over and police officers interviewed the driver, requesting documentation to prove ownership of the livestock.

“It was soon established that the cattle had been stolen. The livestock had been stolen from a farm in Harrismith in the Free State,” commented police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Winterton police made contact with their colleagues at the Harrismith Stock Theft Unit who were sent information about the branding on the cattle.

“They were able to trace the owner who was available and identified her livestock. The owner was not aware that that her cattle had been stolen. The arrested suspect as well as the stock was handed over to the Harrismith police to process,” concluded W/O Khan.
