Clamp down on illegal firearms in the Uthukela Cluster

Police received information about the two people in possession of firearms in Emablesini, in the Upper Tugela area

An operation conducted by Uthukela Cluster Task Team produced positive results when they recovered two firearms and arrested two people.

On August 13, police received information about the two people in possession of firearms in Emablesini, in the Upper Tugela area.

“Upon arrival they found a pistol, which had its serial number filed off, a revolver with one round in its chamber and 12 rounds of ammunition in its magazine,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

Both suspects aged 35 and 50 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The recovered firearms will be subject to ballistic testing to ascertain if they have been involved in any crimes in the country. The suspects appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court.
