Stolen firearms recovered in Winterton

The firearms have been linked to a case of robbery that occurred in Winterton during January this year

Acting on a tip off, members of the National Public Order Reserve Unit arrested two suspects aged 41 and 48.

Last Monday while conducting their duties in the Winterton area, they received information about the suspects in possession of firearms.

They arrived at two homesteads in the Khetani and Maswazini areas, where they recovered two rifles well as ammunition.

The firearms have been linked to a case of robbery that occurred in Winterton during January this year. The duo was arrested for possession of a firearm without a licence and appeared in the Colenso Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

The case was remanded for August 22 for a formal bail application; the suspects remained in custody. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistics to ascertain if they were used in any commission of the crime in the country.
