An anonymous tip led to a stolen vehicle being recovered and an arrest being made last week.
The tip-off, received by a detective from the Ladysmith SAPS Vehicle Crime Identification Unit, indicated that a stolen bakkie was on its way to Ladysmith, travelling from the direction of Bergville.
The officer immediately sprang into action and headed in that direction.
Investigation along the road led him back to the CBD, where he located the vehicle.
It was parked at a shopping centre and the officer kept “eyes” on the vehicle from a distance until the driver arrived.
The police officer then pounced on the suspect.
It was established that the white Ford Bantam bakkie had been stolen in Dawn Park, Gauteng.
The 32-year-old suspect was arrested and made a brief appearance in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court, facing a charge of being in possession of suspected stolen property.
