KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety & Liaison Mxolisi Kaunda has called for calm and tolerance following the murder of Zakhele Joseph Mazibuko over the weekend on the R103 between Estcourt and Ladysmith.
It is believed that the deceased was on his way back to Ladysmith from an IFP meeting that took place in Estcourt when he was ambushed by unknown gunmen. Mazibuko died at the scene.

The MEC has called for calm in the area and has urged people not to speculate about the motive behind Mazibuko’s death. “We must guard against making unfounded allegations regarding the motive behind the killing.
“Let us give police space to conduct a thorough investigation and ultimately bring those responsible for this murder to book,” said Kaunda.
Kaunda said it was unfortunate that this murder occurred a day after the resuscitation of the Multi-Party Political Intervention Committee which is aimed at preaching political tolerance and peaceful co-existence in KwaZulu-Natal.
The MEC conveyed his condolences to the Mazibuko family, uThukela District Municipality and the IFP.
