Police officers have recorded more successes in their quest to keep unlicensed firearms and ammunition off the streets.
This time a morning intelligence driven operation in the Sun Valley area of Weenen was undertaken on August 31.
Officers from the Ladysmith Crime Intelligence teamed up with their human and canine colleagues from the Ladysmith K9 Unit.

“This resulted in the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect and the recovery of a rifle and six rounds of ammunition,” explained police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

He adds that the team scored further successes when a 9mm pistol and nine rounds of ammunition were recovered.
“The pistol has been abandoned and its serial number was filed off. The recovered firearms will be subject to ballistic testing,” added W/O Khan.
The arrested man was charged with being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and appeared in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
