Update: Perpetrators involved in illegal abortions will be charged

The aim of the operation was to clean up Ladysmith and also prevent illegal abortions

Superintendent Dawie Viljoen (Public Safety) says the perpetrators who are involved in the putting up of illegal abortion posters will be charged criminally and also face a hefty fine of R2500.

Public Safety officers, as well as the Fire Department, were out in full force on Wednesday and Thursday morning last week, diligently removing abortion posters that had been plastered to road signs and walls in different streets in the CBD area.

The aim of the operation was to clean up Ladysmith and also prevent illegal abortions from taking place.

Undeterred by the blistering heat of the day, the officers went about their valuable and possibly life-saving task, as illegal abortions are known to result in the death of pregnant women.
