BREAKING NEWS: Council meeting adjourns for lunch break

First councillors ate our money, now instead of discussing it, they choose to eat lunch

Minutes into a meeting to address the findings of COGTA’s forensic investigation, the council adjourned the matter so that the councillors could have lunch.

The meeting was delayed as the municipal manager first had to print out copies of the report. Councillors said they had been in a workshop since 8am had ‘never had a chance to eat”.

Councillors and members of the public  sit around, waiting for copies of the report to be printed.

Once that was done, and the meeting was finally underway, the meeting broke for lunch. The reason given was that councillors were in a workshop from 8am and so needed to eat.

Chairperson of the Resident’s Association, FC Bester commented that ‘first councillors ate our money, now instead of discussing it, they choose to eat lunch.’

He likened the meal to The Last Supper, adding that there could be more than one Judas in the council.

The forensic investigation found numerous cases of fraud, corruption and maladministration as well as irregular, unauthorised and fruitless expenditure involving a councillor and some former officials of the municipality.

The council was given 21 days within which to table the report before the full council, deal with specific details contained in the report and thereafter report to the MEC for Cogta on the remedial actions.
