In an effort to curb crime and at the same time provide education, a team of police officers embarked on a multi-disciplinary operation in Loskop.

Joining forces, a large contingent of officers, descended on the mountainous terrain in the area.
Their operation yielded success when 23 stolen cattle were recovered.
“Airwing members spotted a herd of about 600 cattle grazing unattended in the mountains. The herd was driven down for the Stock Theft Unit detectives and community members to identify. The remainder of the cattle belonged to the community members who informed police that the animals are taken to the mountains in the mornings to graze freely without supervision,” commented police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala.
This two-pronged operation’s second part was educating the community about the importance of branding their livestock and the consequences of buying stolen livestock.

“The operation was a success and similar operations will continue throughout the province to curb stock theft incidents, recover stolen livestock, arrest stock thieves and educate other community members about brand marks,” added Captain Gwala.
