Following Mr Shewnarain’s official appointment, here is what is expected from him.
“I am responsible for managing and heading the Traffic Law Enforcement Activities and the Traffic Control Centre at RTI Midway,” he gladly explained.
His journey in the field began in 2000 when he first offered to serve as the Information Officer for the Ladysmith Region for 10 years. Mr Shewnarain is a man of action.

“Every work place has challenges and we as the local RTI also have challenges. Mainly human resources – there is always a need for more staff as we have a large area of coverage.
“Resources are also a big challenge. We have a vehicle shortage. This mostly occurs when patrol vehicles are involved in accidents or have mechanical failures. However, I am placed in this position of the rank to ensure the challenges are overcome with back-up and contingency plans,” he says.
Speaking of action, Mr Shewnarain and his team promise to do their best to ensure they gain trust from the public they serve. They further hope the community can engage with them in order to reduce crashes and fatalities on the roads.
